Anxiety Therapy in Red Bank, NJ (and Online)

You may look calm and capable on the outside while feeling overwhelmed inside. Perhaps you are getting through work, school, or family responsibilities, but your mind rarely stops. You replay conversations, anticipate what could go wrong, second-guess decisions, or feel as though you should be doing more.

Anxiety can show up as persistent worry, but it can also look like irritability, procrastination, perfectionism, difficulty sleeping, physical tension, or avoiding situations that feel uncomfortable. Therapy can help you understand what is driving your anxiety, respond to it differently, and feel more confident handling uncertainty.

Signs Anxiety May Be Interfering With Your Life

  • Spending a great deal of time imagining what could go wrong

  • Overthinking decisions or questioning choices you have already made

  • Replaying conversations and worrying about how others perceived you

  • Feeling restless, tense, irritable, or unable to relax

  • Having difficulty sleeping because your mind will not shut off

  • Avoiding situations, conversations, or decisions that feel uncomfortable

  • Procrastinating because you are afraid of making a mistake

  • Putting intense pressure on yourself to succeed

  • Frequently seeking reassurance from other people

  • Appearing successful while privately feeling overwhelmed

Anxiety is a normal response to pressure, change, and uncertainty. It becomes a problem when it begins taking up too much space in your life or preventing you from doing things that matter to you. You do not need to experience every symptom—or have a formal diagnosis—to benefit from therapy.

Anxiety Can Impact Every Stage of Life

I work with college students, young adults, and adults experiencing anxiety related to different parts of life:

College Students

Anxiety may involve academic pressure, procrastination, perfectionism, friendships, dating, family expectations, or uncertainty about the future. A student can be doing well academically and still feel lonely, overwhelmed, or afraid of disappointing other people.

Young Adults

The pressure to establish a career, become financially independent, build meaningful relationships, and make major decisions can feel overwhelming. It can be especially difficult when everyone else appears to be moving forward while you feel uncertain or stuck.

Adult Men

Anxiety does not always look like visible worry. It may appear as irritability, difficulty sleeping, emotional disconnection, overworking, or the persistent sense that something is wrong. Men who are accustomed to handling problems independently may wait until anxiety begins affecting their relationships, health, or work before seeking help.

Anxiety can also intensify during health concerns, relationship problems, losses, career changes, caregiving responsibilities, and other major transitions.

How Anxiety Therapy Can Help

Trying to eliminate every anxious thought often makes anxiety more powerful. Therapy can help you develop a different relationship with anxiety so that it no longer makes your decisions for you.

Our work may include:

  • Identifying situations and thought patterns that trigger anxiety

  • Understanding how avoidance can provide short-term relief while strengthening anxiety over time

  • Examining predictions and assumptions that may not be accurate or helpful

  • Learning practical strategies for calming your mind and body

  • Developing greater tolerance for uncertainty

  • Addressing perfectionism and fear of failure

  • Practicing more direct and effective communication

  • Gradually approaching situations you have been avoiding

  • Building confidence in your ability to manage difficult feelings

The goal is not to convince you that nothing bad will ever happen. It is to help you trust that you can cope with uncertainty, solve problems when they arise, and move forward without needing complete reassurance first.

How & Where We Can Meet

I offer in-person, anxiety therapy at my office at 316 Broad Street in Red Bank, New Jersey, as well as secure online therapy for clients located throughout New Jersey, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Florida.

In-person therapy may be especially convenient if you live, attend school, or work in Red Bank or the surrounding Monmouth County area. Online therapy can be a helpful option when travel, school, work, or family responsibilities make getting to the office difficult — or if you are in one of the states above where I am licensed.

Ongoing Sessions are typically 45 minutes and cost $165. I don’t participate directly with insurance plans, but I can provide a superbill that you may submit for possible out-of-network behavioral health benefits. Coverage varies, so it’s helpful to ask your insurance company about your out-of-network benefits.

If you aren’t sure if I seem like the right therapist for you, we can begin with a free 15-minute consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Anxiety Therapy

How do I know whether my anxiety is serious enough for therapy?

You do not need to be in crisis or have a diagnosed anxiety disorder. Therapy may be helpful if worry, avoidance, irritability, perfectionism, or physical tension is interfering with your sleep, relationships, work, school, decision-making, or ability to enjoy life.

What happens during the first appointment?

We will talk about what has been bothering you, how it is affecting your life, and what you hope will change. I’ll ask questions to better understand your circumstances. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and decide whether working together feels like a good fit.

What if I am uncomfortable talking about my feelings?

That is common, especially for people who are accustomed to solving problems on their own. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what to say. We can begin with a particular problem or situation and work from there.

Do you work with high-functioning anxiety?

Yes. Many of my clients are meeting their responsibilities and appear successful to other people while privately experiencing constant worry, self-doubt, perfectionism, or exhaustion.

Do you offer in-person and online appointments?

Yes. I offer in-person therapy in Red Bank and online therapy for clients located in New Jersey, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Florida

What Working With Dayna Stein Is Like:

I’m Dayna Stein, MST, MSW, LCSW. I am a licensed clinical social worker and former middle and high school teacher. I work with college students, young adults, and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, and major life transitions.

My approach is warm, practical, and collaborative. I will listen carefully, but therapy with me involves more than listening. I may ask questions that help you see a situation differently, point out patterns you may not have noticed, and teach strategies you can use outside our sessions.

Depending on your needs, I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance-based approaches, mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy. We will decide together what feels most useful and appropriate for you.

You will not be expected to share everything immediately. We can begin with what is troubling you now, how it’s affecting your life, and what you would like to be different.
